Product Development Engineer

Job summary
Identify and facilitate sourcing opportunities for both raw materials and finished goods within North America, for use in the commercial and military markets.

Summary of essential job functions

  • Familiar with Government Solicitation terminology, including Mil-Spec, ASTM, And ANSI standards.
  • Sourcing of Vendor Suppliers for materials meeting Customer specifications.
  • Purchasing of raw materials for delivery to Plants
  • Monitor supplier activity relative to pricing, delivery, flexibility and quality.
  • Act as liaison between company and subcontractors.
  • Review and report on contract purchase opportunities from the US Government.
  • Ensure that contract and procurement standards are developed and maintained.
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies for all commodities.
  • Ensure that all sourcing is processed in a timely manner.
  • Examine estimates of material, equipment, production costs, performance requirements, and delivery schedules to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Document control.
  • Inventory Management.
  • System Maintenance.


Minimum requirements
  • Familiarity with Government contracts and/or Defense Purchasing, etc. is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Bills of Material, Production planning and scheduling.
  • Strong Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • High School Diploma, college degree preferred.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Develop, implement, and monitor systems for maintaining optimal inventory levels of raw materials responsive to changing demands.
  • Advise planning and production departments of contractual rights and obligations.
  • Study and evaluate government solicitations to ensure compliance and accuracy of finished product.
  • Must be able to exercise discretion and be able to make independent decisions when required.
  • Bilingual a plus.
